Blogged-In

My life. My words.

About

Remember those posters that said, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life?” Well, that’s true with every day except one: the day that you die.

Who is Lester Burnham and what is this blog about?

My name is Lester Burnham. This is my neighborhood; this is my street; this is my life. I am 42 years old; in less than a year I will be dead. Of course I don’t know that yet, and in a way, I am dead already.

Well, not quite: I’m a male caucasian in my mid-forties. Married, with two children at either end of their teens. And in a way, I am dead already. Or at least, I was…

Look at me, jerking off in the shower… This will be the high point of my day; it’s all downhill from here.

And this is how my life was until I began an affair. OK, maybe not actually all that bad, but you get the picture.

I have quite a few other blogs on the go: a number of WordPress and Movable Type blogs for general moaning and bitchiness mainly at the corporate world and a permanent LiveJournal account which covers a bit of everything. The trouble with the latter is that it identifies who I am and in view of what I’ve already written here, you can see why that is A Bad Thing.

So these domain names are registered anonymously and I shall be using pseudonyms for the people I mention here. I am Lester Burnham; my wife is Carolyn and my daughter is Jane, all like the characters in the film “American Beauty” (from where these quotes are taken). As the Burnhams in the film don’t have a son, we’ll call mine Ricky like the one next door and of course there’s my mistress: we’ll call her Angela.

It’s a collection of thoughts and an online diary. I don’t want it to be private as I know there will be thousands - maybe even millions - of people feeling as I did. I don’t want it to become so well known that it becomes a phenomenon like “Belle de Jour” did either, so I’m not “claiming it” or adding it to my Technorati profile or publicising it to the Search Engines.
